Green Clean a Bathroom - FAST
There are easy, inexpensive Green cleaning solutions for putting a sparkle back in your bathroom. Let's take a look at the eco-friendly side of bathroom cleaning.
Here are Mary's primary rules to speed clean your bathroom:
1. Give your product time to work. Let your product set on the surface for 4 or 5 mintues then wipe clean.
2. Prevention; prevention; prevention!
A few simple changes in the bathroom will save your hours of work each month.
Cleaning Soap Scum
Soap scum on showers and bathtubs remains the biggest challenge in any bathroom. Eliminate the soap scum buildup by switching soap. The animal fat and talc in bar soap causes the buildup. Switch to organic liquid, glycerin or organic bar soap to avoid the problem. Avoid any soap, hair shampoo or conditioner that contains sodium laurel sulfate or SLS. SLS extracts the petrochemicals out of plastic bottles turning to dioxin or Agent Orange, which is highly toxic.
Remove heavy soap scum buildup with full strength CleanEz Apply it with a light cloth. Wait 4 to 5 minutes then scrub gently with our White Scrubbie Pad dampened with water. Rinse thoroughly with water when you finish. For weekly maintenance, dilute CleanEz one ounce per 32 ounce spray bottle.
Squeegee your shower and glass shower doors after showering to avoid water spot damage.
When you finish cleaning the shower spray our Advantage onto a cloth and wipe down the showers and glass shower doors. Cleaning Water Spots on glass shower doors
can be tricky as they are stubborn. Once water spots are allowed to set on any surface the alkali etches into the surface. Bring straight food grade distilled white vinegar to a boil. Wear gloves and sponge onto the doors. Keep soaking the doors every 3 to 4 minutes with the vinegar then scrub with a dampened White Scrubbie Pad The whitish part comes off but the etching may still show.
Purchase a plastic squeegee and squeegee your entire shower after each use. Once every four months apply Advantage to your shower walls and glass doors. Advantage although made for vehicles contains polymers that make surfaces slick as well as leave a protective coat. The water slides right off the walls and will help prevent those spots.
Removing Toilet bowl rings
Hard water rings, iron and rust in your toilet pop right off with our Erase It for Bathrooms without scratching like pumice stones. These rings and iron or rust are gone in a wink.
Pour a cup of white vinegar into the toilet once a month to prevent hard water rings from forming. Let that set overnight then scrub with baking soda the next morning. Note: Vinegar will not prevent the rings made from iron deposits.
After you have removed those rings from around the toilet, back the water out of the toilet. Dry the bowl then apply some Advantage to the bowl. The polymers in Advantage that do such a wonderful job protecting your car leaves a slick coating on the surface. When the surface is slick - nothing sticks!
Cleaning Shower Curtains
Clean most shower curtains by tossing them in the washer along with a few bath towels. The towels help scrub the curtains. Do not overfill the washer or nothing will come clean. Add your laundry soap as the washer begins to fill, then add the towels and allow it to finish filling. Shut off the machine and soak the curtains for an hour. Finish laundering and air dry.
Moldy shower and tub caulking
Mold grows behind caulking in the shower. Remove the caulking then clean the surface thoroughly with CleanEz Spray a second time with the CleanEz an hour later. Dry and apply new caulking.
Cleaning bathroom mirrors
Green clean bathroom mirrors by using our Benya Benya removes films and will not streak windows or mirrors and it prevents them from fogging up. Benya is environmentally safe and one of the few cleaners gentle enough to use on granite and marble surfaces.
Remove Mold and Mildew
To reduce mold and mildew buildup problems in your bathroom, take a shorter, cooler shower. Keep a window or door cracked open if possible.
Remove mold on walls and ceilings by spraying them with CleanEz in a dilution of 5 parts water to 1 part CleanEz. Alternately use full strength food grade distilled white vinegar. Wipe the walls then 24 hours later clean them with hydrogen peroxide. Use a fresh bottle from the store as old peroxide will not work.
Clogged Drains
Here is a fast and environmentally friendly way to prevent clogged drains. Pour one-half cup of Natures Miracle, found in pet stores, down the drains once a month. Nature's Miracle is an enzyme and product that is 100% green and safe for city sewer systems, septic systems, holding tanks and the environment. The enzymes literally "eat" any bacteria found in your drains preventing the clogs.
Vacation time
When you leave home for any amount of time, pour one cup of distilled white vinegar into your toilets. Then place a piece of saran wrap over the bowl - not the seat but the bowl itself. This prevents the water from evaporating and hard water marks from forming. Hair spray
Remove hair spray buildup from mirrors and counter tops with straight rubbing alcohol. After you remove the hairspray, apply Advantage to make this job faster and easier. Do not use Advantage on marble or granite surfaces. It is safe for Corian protecting it against stains.
Switch to an organic gel to keep the hairspray from sticking to your mirrors and your lungs and other organs inside your body when you inhale the spray.
Enamel fixtures
Most enamel fixtures will come back to life if rubbed with a freshly cut lemon. A paste of borax and lemon makes an excellent cleaner for enamel or brushed steel fixtures. Do not use on brass or gold plated faucets.
Cabinet cleaning and water splotches
Clean and deep condition bathroom cabinets twice a year to prevent the steam or water spots from drying the wood which causes the cracking and peeling. Our one step Wood Cleaner and Conditioner keeps them in top conditioned if applied twice a year.
If the wood has begun to crack, it won't restore the wood. They must be sanded and refinished. Our Wood Cleaner and Conditioner will remove the whitish water marks caused by steam from the shower and bring them back to life.
Toilet training little boys
First of all urine smells around the toilet are difficult to treat. If you can’t get rid of the urine smell in the flooring, it has probably penetrated into the sublayers of the flooring. It may be that you will need to replace the flooring around the toilet to get rid of the smell.
Try pouring a fourth of a cup of Nature's Miracle on the area. Let it penetrate the wood. The Nature's Miracle is made from enzymes that "eat" and dissolve the bacteria causing the odors. If this does not solve the problem, then I'm afraid you will need to refinish the floor.
A trick to help your little boy hit the toilet is to lay a piece of toilet paper flat on top of the water in the toilet. Have him aim for the paper. Most boys love the game and their aim gets pretty good!
